Rappers linked to steroids by probe
January 15, 2008 (AP)
ALBANY, N.Y. -- R&B music star Mary J. Blige, rap musicians 50 Cent, Timbaland and Wyclef Jean, and author and producer Tyler Perry may have received or used steroids, according to unidentified law enforcement officials involved in an Albany-based steroid investigation, the Times Union newspaper reported.
The officials said evidence does not indicate that the celebrities broke the law, but investigators are focusing on doctors, pharmacists and clinics that provide the drugs, including Signature Pharmacy of Orlando, Fla. So far, 10 defendants have pleaded guilty.
While athletes use steroids to get stronger, the drugs also are used for their supposed anti-aging qualities.
Blige's spokeswoman denied the singer had taken illegal steroids.
